Frequently asked questions

Q

Can I stay with my pet whilst you are grooming?

We don't encourage most owners to stay as this can make your pet more fidgety and less tolerant of the groomers authority. However if we do feel your presence would help in the handling of your pet at any point throughout the procedure we will notify you.

Q

What are the benefits to sending my dog to a professional groomers?

If trained correctly many groomers should have a good understanding of the anatomy of all dogs. Showing a clear knowledge of different canine illnesses and diseases which can often be discovered during a regular grooming appointment. We generally have great insight to problem areas on a dogs body, especially with regards to their skin and fur. We will have studied the many different coat types and best methods to care for differing coats.

Q

How long will it take to groom my dog?

This depends on many things including dogs temperament, tolerance, owners requirements, size and coat type. We therefore confirm this only once we have assessed your dog.

Q

How much will it cost to groom my dog?

As with calculating the time needed to groom your pet we prefer to assess your dog prior to quoting for our service. We provide a rough guide price through our link, however we will always agree our price before you leave your dog with us.

Q

What should I do if I wish to cancel my appointment?

We accept that your pets appointment may need to be rescheduled for numerous reasons. You can notify us by phone, email or by messaging us on Facebook. We do ask that you try to give us at least 24 hours notification so we might be able to offer the appointment to anyone on our waiting list.

Q

What products do you use on my dog?

We always try to select the best choice of bathing and spa products for each pet, this is often determined by coat type, condition and styling requirements considering any existing skin conditions. We might use a selection of natural Earth Bath shampoos, conditioners, calming Blueberry facials, mud bath products and colognes along with specially selected ear cleaners whilst grooming your pet. Be sure to notify us if your Veterinary prescribes a specialist shampoo or grooming routine for your pet, we will always do as your vet advises.

Q

Do you provide treatments for fleas?

We ask that all dogs visiting our salon be undergoing a regular preventative flea program, however we don't currently supply these. If we find fleas on your pet we will use a suitable flea shampoo and may ask for an additional payment to cover our clean up costs.

Q

My dog is very matted, can you groom it?

Read our policies on de-matting/ clipping off. We will always do our best to save any dog from irritability when their coat is suffering matts, however when the removal of matts puts your dogs welfare at risk we will after discussing with yourself, opt to clip your dogs coat to a short length to allow the coat to grow back again, it is then up to you to agree to a more suitable grooming schedule or style to keep your pets coat in optimal condition.

Q

Can you pluck my dogs ears?

There is some controversy on ear plucking today. If I feel your dog would benefit from and tolerate a pain-free, external ear pluck, be aware I will first need to obtain veterinary consent from your practise. This is because some dogs suffer ear problems if they are plucked and some can suffer issues if they aren't.

Q

Can we express your dogs anal glands?

There is some controversy surrounding this topic too. Like Ear Plucking it is now considered invasive and should only be carried out by professionals who have been taught to do so properly and safely, by a trained tutor/ vet.

Therefore if this is something that as previously been done at your other groomers, be aware we will first need to obtain consent from your Veterinary practise before carrying out this procedure.
